Fire Extinguisher Maintenance

We offer fire extinguisher maintenance services to ensure that your equipment continues to operate effectively in the event of an emergency. Legally all fire extinguishers must be checked once a year. However, we also offer more regular checks and servicing for businesses who want to ensure fire extinguishers are always maintained.

Our BAFE registered engineers will vet all extinguishers and check pressure is maintained. In the event a fire extinguisher is used the extinguishant should be replaced at the earliest available opportunity. To Discuss your Maintenance Requirements please contact us directly.

Fire Extinguisher Installation

Fire extinguishers should be installed and maintained by fire extinguisher engineers to meet with regulatory requirements. Specific installations vary based on locations within a building – for example public facing areas often benefit from safety brackets to prevent tampering. Specialist brackets are often needed when affixing to plasterboard or other light materials. To Discuss your Installation Requirements please contact us directly.

Fire Extinguisher Positioning

The top of your fire extinguishers should be roughly 1m off the floor for most standard extinguishers. For extinguishers below 4kg in weight the height can be up to 1.5m. When extinguishers are placed side by side they should both be mounted on the wall with the heaviest extinguisher at 1m above the ground. In some circumstances wall mounting is impossible and specialist extinguisher stands can be used instead.

Types of Fire Extinguisher

We provide a bespoke fire extinguisher installation and maintenance service to every client. We will initially analyse your premises to determine the number and type of fire extinguishers that will be required. Different fire extinguishers have different roles to play and types of fire they are suitable for.

Foam Spray Fire Extinguishers Foam spray fire extinguishers are the most versatile and are commonly used in offices and residential developments. They are suitable for fighting non-electrical fires composed of solids and liquids. They are the least likely to cause accidental injury if sprayed on electrical fires.

CO² Fire Extinguishers CO2 extinguishers are used to fight electrical fire and certain liquid fires. They are designed to quickly extinguish fires but do not offer post fire cooling – meaning fires can reignite.

Water Fire Extinguishers Water based fire extinguishers are the cheapest to buy and maintain but do not offer the same levels of protection as other extinguishers. We usually recommend other types of extinguisher be used in most premises.

Dry Powder Fire Extinguishers Dry powder extinguishers are suitable for most fires including solid, liquid and gas fires. They can obscure vision when used but are particularly useful in industrial settings where fires need to be treated rapidly.

Wet Chemical Fire Extinguishers Wet chemical fire extinguishers are specialist extinguishers designed for kitchen fires where oil or fats may be present. They are designed to safely extinguish fires where oils can cause serious injury.

D Class Powder Fire Extinguishers D class fire extinguishers are specialist equipment for fighting high temperature metal fires. They are used almost exclusively in industrial settings.
